What is a quad split ducted air conditioner?
The quad split ducted system connects four ducted indoor units to a single outdoor unit. The indoor units are concealed in the false ceilings or in dedicated chases, while the air enters and leaves the rooms through discreet vents and grilles. It is the right solution when you want to air-condition four different rooms while keeping walls and ceilings completely clear, with no visible split units.
Why choose the ducted version
Ducting makes the system practically invisible: you see only the supply and return grilles, while the whole machine stays above the false ceiling. This translates into a clean look, a more even air distribution and high acoustic comfort, because the noise of the ventilation stays away from the living area. With a single outdoor unit you also reduce clutter on balconies and façades.
Four zones, a single unit
Having four units on a single outdoor unit lets you manage four rooms independently, for example the living room, the kitchen and two bedrooms. Each zone can run at its own temperature and on its own schedule, while the inverter modulates the power delivered according to the rooms actually in use. If you only need fewer rooms, you can consider a tri split wall-mounted system or a tailored setup with the multisplit configurator.
How many BTU do you need for four rooms?
In a quad split, each indoor unit has its own power, expressed in BTU, chosen according to the square metres of the individual room. The outdoor unit must then support the sum of the four units. As a general rule:
- Bedrooms and studies up to about 25 m²: count on around 9000 BTU.
- Living rooms and spaces from 25 to 35 m²: count on around 12000 BTU.
- Open spaces and large living areas: count on from 18000 BTU upwards.
The correct combination of the four units avoids both undersizing and waste, because the system always works close to its point of maximum efficiency.
