What is a console dual split air conditioner?

The console dual split brings together two floor-standing indoor units, known precisely as consoles, fed by a single outdoor unit. The consoles are installed low down, usually under the window, and spread the air both upwards and downwards. It is the right choice when you want to air-condition two rooms, for example the bedroom and the living room, while keeping a single motor outside and freeing up the upper walls.

Why choose floor-standing units

Floor-standing consoles are handy when the walls are taken up by furniture, bookshelves or pictures, or when you prefer not to position the split unit high up. They stay within easy reach for cleaning and maintenance and, thanks to the twin vent, they heat starting from the bottom, an output appreciated in winter. If instead you prefer traditional wall-mounted units, you can consider a wall-mounted dual split system.

Two rooms with a single outdoor motor

With the dual split you connect two consoles to a single outdoor unit: you take up only one spot on the balcony or in the garden and you reduce the visual impact. It is the natural solution for anyone with two neighbouring rooms to serve. If the rooms to be air-conditioned become three or four, you can move up to a trial split or a quadri split, configurable from our multisplit configurator.

How many BTU do you need for each room?

The capacity of each console is chosen based on the square metres and the insulation of the individual room. In our catalogue you will mainly find these sizes:

  • 9000 BTU: rooms up to around 25 m², such as bedrooms and studies.
  • 12000 BTU: rooms from 25 to 35 m², such as medium-sized living rooms.

In the dual split you can pair two different sizes, so each room receives the right capacity with no waste.

Heat pump and consumption

The consoles work with an inverter heat pump, so they cool in summer and heat in winter by modulating the power instead of switching on and off continuously. Cooling efficiency is read in the SEER value, heating in the SCOP, and the higher these indices are, the lower the consumption stays. Spreading the air from the bottom helps you feel the heat sooner during the cold months.

The best brands available

You will find the leading manufacturers in the sector, with official warranty and available spare parts: Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Midea, Hisense, LG, TCL, Samsung and OneClima. Prices start at around 680 euros and go up to the most complete solutions, for every budget.

Frequently asked questions

What is a floor-standing console?
It is an indoor unit that is installed low down, usually under the window, instead of high up on the wall. It spreads the air from a twin vent, upwards and downwards, and is handy when the walls are taken up or you prefer not to mount the split unit high up.
What is the difference between a console dual split and a wall-mounted dual split?
Only the type of indoor unit changes. In the console dual split the two units are floor-standing, under the window, while in the wall-mounted dual split they are fitted high up. In both cases two indoor units are connected to a single outdoor motor.
Can I air-condition two different rooms with a single motor?
Yes, that is exactly the purpose of the dual split: you connect two consoles to a single outdoor unit and serve two rooms, for example the bedroom and the living room, taking up only one spot on the balcony or in the garden.
Can I choose different capacities for the two consoles?
Yes. In a dual split you can pair two different sizes, for example 9000 BTU for the bedroom and 12000 BTU for the living room, so each room receives the capacity suited to its square metres.
Do the consoles heat well in winter too?
Yes, they work with an inverter heat pump and spread the warm air starting from the bottom, an output appreciated in the cold months because the heat is felt sooner at floor level.
How many BTU do you need for a 25 m² room?
For a well-insulated room of around 25 m², 9000 BTU are usually enough. For rooms from 25 to 35 m², poorly insulated or very exposed to the sun, it is worth moving up to 12000 BTU.
