What console air conditioners are
Console air conditioners, also called floor-standing units, have the indoor unit installed low near the floor, usually under the window, exactly where you would normally put a radiator. They distribute air from the bottom upwards, which makes them perfect for winter heating and lets them blend in well in rooms where you don't want a unit mounted high on the wall. They run on an inverter heat pump, so they cool in summer and heat in winter.
Console mono and multisplit, which to choose
The console family covers two main configurations. With the console monosplit you connect a single indoor unit to a single outdoor motor, ideal for one room such as the living room or bedroom. With the multisplit system you connect several console indoor units to a single outdoor motor, a choice that reduces clutter when you want to air condition several rooms of the house.
When to choose the console over the wall unit
The console makes sense when you have little space high up on the walls, perhaps because of beams, high ceilings or large glazed areas, or when you are after better heating performance. By spreading warm air from the bottom, the console heats the room more evenly than a wall unit. If instead you prefer the classic high installation, you can consider wall air conditioners or specifically wall monosplits.
The advantages of the console over the wall unit
- More effective heating, because warm air starts low and rises naturally.
- Convenient position under the window, in place of the old radiator.
- Easier maintenance and filter cleaning, since the unit is at arm's height.
- Discreet look in rooms with free high walls or large glazed areas.
All the other types of indoor unit remain valid as well, such as the recessed solutions for the cassette monosplits.
How many BTU you need
The power is chosen based on the square metres and the insulation of the room. In the catalogue you mainly find these sizes:
- 9000 BTU, for rooms up to about 25 m².
- 12000 BTU, for rooms from 25 to 35 m².
- 18000 BTU, for rooms from 35 to 50 m².
- 21000 and 24000 BTU, for very large rooms and big floor areas.
The best brands available
The console family gathers 158 products, all ready to ship, with prices from about 563 to 4506 euros. You'll find the leading manufacturers in the sector, with official warranty and spare parts available: Hisense, Daikin, TCL, Mitsubishi Electric, Midea, LG and Samsung.
Connected comfort and offers
Many console models can also be managed from a smartphone and through a voice assistant: take a look at the smart air conditioners with Alexa and Google Home.
