Which type of air conditioner should you choose?
In this collection you will find every type of air conditioner, organised to help you work out which one suits you. The choice depends on how many rooms you want to air condition, the space available and the type of installation possible. A single split serves one room, a multi split connects several indoor units to a single outdoor unit, while cassette and ducted units are designed for commercial spaces or for discreet integration into the false ceiling. With over 2000 models available for immediate dispatch and prices from 99 to 6152 euros, here you start from the type and arrive at the right model.
If you are only after wall-mounted units, the most common form in homes, you can go straight to the wall-mounted air conditioners.
Single split: one room, a simple solution
The single split connects one indoor unit to a single outdoor unit. It is the most common choice for air conditioning a single room such as the bedroom, living room or study, and it is easy to install and to size. Power is measured in BTU: in the catalogue the most requested outputs are 9000 BTU for rooms up to about 25 m², 12000 BTU for spaces from 25 to 35 m², 18000 BTU for larger spaces and 24000 BTU for big floor areas.
You will find the wall-mounted models in the dedicated collection of single split wall-mounted air conditioners, or the cassette variants among the single split cassette units.
Multi split, dual and triple: several rooms with one outdoor unit
When you want to air condition two or more rooms while reducing the footprint outside, the solution is a multi split system: a single outdoor unit serves several indoor units, each with its own remote and its own temperature. The dual split connects two indoor units, the triple split connects three, and you can go up to penta systems. It is the ideal choice for flats spread across several rooms, where a single outdoor unit simplifies the installation and the look of the façade.
- Configure your system with the multi split configurator.
- For two rooms, discover the dual split wall-mounted systems.
- For three rooms, see the triple split wall-mounted units.
Cassette and ducted: for large spaces and discreet installations
Cassette air conditioners recess into the false ceiling and distribute air evenly on four sides: they are the typical choice for shops, offices and open-plan spaces. Ducted models stay completely hidden, because the air travels through ducts and is delivered through vents: only the grilles are visible, for a clean and elegant result. Both types need space in the false ceiling and a more structured installation than the classic wall-mounted split, but they offer a superior finish. You will find the built-in units among the cassette air conditioners.
Portable and floor-standing: without an outdoor unit
When you cannot install an outdoor unit, for example in a rented home or in a block of flats with restrictions, you still have portable air conditioners and floor-standing models. The portable is a single-block unit on wheels that expels hot air through a hose to be placed at the window: it moves from one room to another and is ready to use with no building work. The floor-standing models are vertical floor units, designed for those who want a fixed solution but without holes in the wall. They are less efficient than a split, but immediate and flexible: see all the portable air conditioners.
Efficiency, energy class and smart functions
Almost all modern air conditioners use an inverter heat pump, so they cool in summer and heat in winter by modulating power instead of switching on and off constantly. Cooling efficiency is shown by the SEER value, heating efficiency by the SCOP: the higher these indices, the lower the consumption. The A+++ class models are the most cost-effective over time. If remote control interests you, consider the smart air conditioners compatible with Alexa and Google Home.
Brands, prices and related solutions
You will find the sector's leading manufacturers with official warranty and spare parts available: Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Hisense, Samsung and LG. Prices start at 99 euros and go up to the highest-performing solutions for every budget. To heat domestic hot water with the same technology too, take a look at the heat pump water heaters, or discover all the current offers.
